Rusted Treasure

Months ago my Dad turned a documentary on about a submarine. It lay on the ocean floor, useless and rusted. Yet these researchers where willing to spend time and money to explore it. It made no sense to me (why someone would spend money and time on something like that), but it did inspire a poem. Written from the perspective of the hungry and needy, who have no use for rusted treasure.

Go dig up your sunken ships

Stir up the sand & scrape off barnacles

Go deeper & deeper

Making much of rust & decay

Did you know?

Can't you see?

We dig food out from the bins of the wealthy

Scraping to make a measly penny

Sinking deeper & deeper into despair

But go make much of your finds

Leave us here to struggle & slowly die.
